At Scuba Vida, we love introducing divers to places where Cuba’s natural beauty takes your breath away — both above and below the surface.
One of those places is Bacunayagua, the majestic bridge that connects Havana Province with Matanzas, standing tall over a deep, green canyon that opens into the coast.
This landmark isn’t just Cuba’s highest bridge (over 110 meters tall) — it’s also the gateway to one of our favorite diving and snorkeling areas between Varadero, Matanzas, and Havana.
Built in the 1950s and inaugurated in 1959, the Bacunayagua Bridge has long been celebrated as one of Cuba’s greatest engineering achievements. From its viewpoint, you can see the lush Yumurí Valley, the blue of the Atlantic coast, and the cliffs that shelter the marine life below.
At the lookout, visitors stop for photos, fresh piña colada served in a pineapple, and panoramic views that stretch across the Cuban countryside. But for us at Scuba Vida, the real magic begins under those cliffs — where the reefs and coral shelves hide colorful underwater surprises.

Bacunayagua is one of our main diving points, perfect for certified divers and adventurous beginners who want to explore Cuba’s lesser-known underwater landscapes.
•Depth: 8 to 25 meters — ideal for both new and experienced divers.
•Visibility: Usually 15–25 meters, depending on season and tides.
•Marine life: You can expect reef fish, rays, small groupers, lobsters, and vibrant corals typical of Cuba’s north coast.
•Conditions: Calm and safe for most of the year — our guides choose the best entry points and times for every dive.
We operate directly from Varadero and Matanzas, but we also arrange transfers and custom tours for guests staying in Havana who want to dive at Bacunayagua or nearby reefs.
Our PSS-certified instructors guide every dive with safety, care, and local knowledge — helping you enjoy the underwater beauty while keeping our marine environment healthy and protected.
Around Bacunayagua, you’ll find local camping areas (“campismos”) and small coves that Cuban families love to visit in summer. It’s a lively spot where you can swim, snorkel, barbecue with locals, or relax in nature after your dive.
Many of our guests love combining a morning dive with an afternoon picnic or a scenic stop at the Bacunayagua viewpoint — a perfect day trip between Varadero and Havana.

Getting there: Bacunayagua is just about halfway between Havana and Varadero, making it an easy stop on the main road.
Transfers: Scuba Vida can pick you up from Varadero, Matanzas, or Havana.
What to bring: Sunscreen, towel, water, and your adventurous spirit — we take care of the rest (equipment, tanks, weights, and safety gear).
At Scuba Vida, diving is more than a sport — it’s our way to share the natural wonders of Cuba with visitors from around the world.
We keep our groups small for personal attention, follow eco-friendly diving practices, and work with local guides and communities to make your experience authentic and sustainable.
Whether you’re discovering scuba for the first time or adding a unique dive site to your logbook, Bacunayagua offers a mix of natural beauty, local culture, and underwater adventure that’s hard to beat.
